New fonts coming soon!

A new edition of Merriweather is coming in the form of 3 fonts. There will be a new improved Regular, a Light, and a Bold.

The Regular and the Light are alpha releases which I don’t expect to revise. The Bold is only a beta. I definitely expect to revise it.

Why is it a beta? It was not made 100% properly. It was extrapolated from the regular and the light. Because of this it shares glyph metrics with the lighter weights and so doesn’t look bold enough at small sizes. Still, for some people it will be very useful. So I am letting people choose if they want to start using it – or wait.

I can also report that the project to manually hint Merriweather regular in VTT is coming along very well indeed. Hopefully having it well hinted for PC use will raise the amount of use Merriweather is getting even further.

The next few posts will include:

• Screen captures of Merriweather in a variety of browsers, especially those in Windows.
• A very useful debate about rendering I have been having with Veron Adams. Vernon is making type for the Google Font Directory like myself.
